Sam Green's 32 SOUNDS was set to open the Sundance Film Festival this year (so baller) but, as it's gone virtual, so has Sam. The documentary is an essay about sound constructed around 32 specific recordings, ranging from the foghorns of San Francisco to the sound of John Cageperforming 4:33, and from composer Annea Lockwood listening to the crickets at dusk in her backyard to the sound of the womb. The film features an amazing cast of people who are smart about sound: Deaf sound artist Christine Sun Kim, poet and scholar Fred Moten, experimental musician Mazen Kerbaj, Foley artist Joanna Fang, and many others.
